Limits of normality and symmetry in standing back shape and posture

چکیده
Introduction Abnormalities of posture are a common cause of pain and disability. The range of effect from discomfort to incapacitating disability is related both to the severity as well as to the persistence of the faults (Kendall, 1993). On the whole, objective measurement systems for postural evaluation are not widely accessible in the UK especially on the National Health Service (Warren et al, 2005). Within physiotherapy practice one of the most common methods of assessing posture is by visual observation. It is well known however that unaided visual assessment is prone to error and lacks objectivity. Accurate recording of back shape and posture, if scientifically based on reliable measures can be used to credibly validate intervention or efficacy of treatment. However uncertainly still remains as to the limits of normality relating to back shape values in young males and females. Knowledge of these values would significantly benefit clinicians as it would enable them to decide when postural retraining exercises/ conservative treatment is warranted. The objective of this study was to identify the limits of normality and symmetry of back shape in a group of asymptomatic young females and males.

THE EFFECT OF TWELVE WEEKS OF SENSORIMOTOR EXERCISES ON DISTRIBUTION PLANTAR PRESSURE VARIABLES AND SYMMETRY INDEX IN PATIENTS WITH PATELLOFEMORAL PAIN SYNDROME: A RANDOMIZED DOUBLE-BLIND CLINICAL TRIAL
Background & Aims: In patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome, the presence of pain, proprioception, and neuromuscular disorders leads to posture control disorder, which causes abnormal distribution plantar pressure. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of twelve weeks of sensorimotor exercises on distribution plantar pressure variables and symmetry index in patients wi...
متن کاملThe Ratio of Lumbar to Hip Motion during the Trunk Flexion in Patients with Mechanical Chronic Low Back Pain According to O’Sullivan Classification System: A Cross-sectional Study
Background: Static and dynamic postures of lumbopelvic in low back pain (LBP) are considered as two importantaspects of clinical assessment and management of LBP. Thus, the focus of the current study was to compare theposture and compensatory strategy of hip and lumbar region during trunk flexion between LBP subgroupsand healthsubjects. LBP cases are subdivided into active extension pattern (AE...
متن کاملکفپوش ضد خستگی: یک راه حل ارگونومیک جهت کاهش کمردرد ناشی از ایستادن طولانی مدت
Background & Aims: Prolonged standing in static posture during occupational tasks has been associated with low back pain (LBP). Increased bilateral gluteus medius (GM) muscles co-activation is considered to be the most predisposing factor for LBP development during prolonged standing in asymptomatic individual. Change and modify flooring in occupational environment is common ergonomic interve...
متن کاملShape and thickness of cushion in a standing aid to support a forward bending posture: effects on posture, muscle activities and subjective discomfort.
In order to prevent low back pain (LBP) during dishwashing, we developed three types of aid with a thick cushion for supporting the shins and evaluated the effects of the standing aid on the subjective discomfort and muscle activities. Nine female volunteers were asked to wash plates in each of four working postures: (a) without the standing aid, (b) with the round type of aid, (c) with the sma...
متن کاملFront packs: is 15% safe? Evaluation of the effect of different front pack loads on 3D back shape and posture in asymptomatic young adults
Introduction Load carriage is a significant factor in the aetiology of back pain. Front load carriage in particular, is a significant problem in obese individuals, as well as pre and post pregnancy in women. Further, carrying a frontpack is routinely used within some industries such as agriculture and construction. Whilst the focus of much of the literature is on backpacks, little is known on t...
